SCOTTY McCREERY DELIVERS POWERFUL PERFORMANCE AT “NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT” ON PBS

McCreery Tuskegee AirmanCountry Singer Meets Tuskegee Airmen Backstage on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, DC

During “The National Memorial Day Concert,” which aired live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington DC on Sunday May 28 on PBS, country music entertainer Scotty McCreery took the stage and brought the crowd to tears with his powerful performance of “The Dash.” The song was written by Kyle Jacobs and Preston Brust and is featured on McCreery’s second studio album, See You Tonight. During the performance, a video ran featuring footage of SFC Lewis Clark Walton, who was killed in action during the Vietnam War but whose remains weren’t found and returned home until 36 years later. Walton’s widow and adult children were seated in the audience, visibly moved as McCreery sang. You can watch McCreery’s performance here.  A fitting song for Memorial Day, “The Dash” is about the line between the birth and death dates on a tombstone and how that short line represents a person’s life and legacy. As the chorus states, “It's always too soon, It’s always too fast, There'll never come a day that you don't want 'em back, It ain't about the numbers chiseled in concrete, it's how they lived their lives in the dash between.”

“I’ve always loved performing ‘The Dash’ and was honored that the Memorial Day Concert producers asked me to be part of their show and pay tribute to the brave men and women who gave everything for our country,” said McCreery. “We will always remember them and their sacrifice.”

Backstage at “The National Memorial Day Concert,” McCreery had the privilege to meet and be photographed with several of the legendary Tuskegee Airmen who were honored on the program for their service to our country.  “I can’t put into words how exciting it was for me to meet these gentlemen who were part of the Tuskegee Airmen,” said McCreery. “Their heroism is inspirational for all of us. I didn’t deserve to be in the same room with them, but I was proud to shake their hands and thank them for all they did for our nation.”

McCreery will next be seen live on the “FOX & Friends” All-American Concert Series this Friday, June 2, where he will perform his new single “Five More Minutes” which was the No. 2 country single and No. 9 all-genre single on iTunes when it was released on May 5 and has already earned more than 1.2 million streams on Spotify. McCreery is touring throughout the summer and fall; for tour dates and more, visit ScottyMcCreery.com.
