FOR HIS 22nd BIRTHDAY TOMORROW, SCOTTY McCREERY REQUESTS FANS HONOR SHARON EAVES WITH DONATIONS TO ST. JUDE
Country music sensation Scotty McCreery will turn 22 tomorrow (Oct. 9). Instead of sending him gifts, the singer/songwriter encourages his fans to honor his fan club president Sharon Eaves, who passed away suddenly on Sept. 25, and support a cause that was near and dear to her heart -- St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by clicking here.
“I have many blessings in my life and I don’t need ‘things’ to celebrate my birthday,” said McCreery. “But I miss my friend Sharon, who would have had a birthday just yesterday if she was still with us. I’d love to see my fans honor her and continue her great work with St. Jude.”
Eaves, a music industry veteran and longtime member of St. Jude’s Music Industry Advisory Council, had created the Southern Belles team to participate in the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer in Nashville on Sept. 26 in McCreery’s honor. The team raised $4,000 by the time of the event, and the donor link remains open through November.
McCreery will host a live Twitter Party this Sunday, Oct. 11 at 10:09 PM/ET (for his birthdate 10-09) for 22 minutes (in recognition of being 22) where he will chat with fans. The ACM and CMT Award winner will also share stories from his birthday celebration, a two-day trip with his best friends to play golf and support North Carolina State in their football game against Virginia Tech.
One of country music’s most followed artists on social media, McCreery is frequently on Twitter and Facebook and has been known to re-tweet and re-post when his followers use those channels to request his current single “Southern Belle” with their local radio stations. In-between sporting events this weekend, he will be looking for as many fan tweets and posts to favor and re-tweet as possible. “Southern Belle,” which has received more than one million streams on Spotify, continues to move up the country singles charts and can be purchased online athttp://umgn.us/southernbelle. It is the first single from his eagerly awaited new album due out in 2016.
