Scotty McCreery Reflects On Winning ‘American Idol’ 10 Years Later, Offers Chayce Beckham Advice
Scotty McCreery is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of his American Idol win.
On May 25, 2011, McCreery won the popular singing competition show and now ten years later he is reflecting on his big Idol win and what he would tell his younger self.
“Yeah, well, first off it is pretty crazy, I’ve kind of been looking back at videos already this morning reminiscing on it,” McCreery exclusively told Music Mayhem. “I don’t know, I probably would’ve told myself to maybe slow down and enjoy the moment. Everything doesn’t have to be so perfect. I was very focused on making sure every little thing was going to be perfect, instead of just living in the now like I probably should’ve been living back then, so it’s stop and smell the roses for sure.”
The country superstar also commented that it’s “awesome” to share the same anniversary date of May 25 with fellow superstar Carrie Underwood, who won the show just six years prior to his win.
Scotty McCreery Sounds The Pre-Game Carolina Hurricane Siren For Game 5
The Nashville Predators aren’t the only team with country music super fans. Scotty McCreery, a native of North Carolina, was the pre-game siren sounder for the Carolina Hurricanes prior to their 3-2 overtime win against the Preds on Tuesday, May 25.
McCreery, the winner of American Idol season 10, has been a lifelong Hurricane fan even though he has been spotted supporting Nashville on occasion in the past.
“As a North Carolina guy, I’ve been a fan of the Carolina Hurricanes since I can remember,” says McCreery. “They moved to North Carolina when I was 3-4 years old, so they are the team I grew up with. They’ve always been a great team, but I especially love the current roster. It’s full of young guys and they’re aggressive; they work hard and they always go for it. Coach Brind’Amour has done a great job leading this team. Obviously I travel a lot, but when I’m home in Raleigh, I don’t miss a game. I love this team!”
McCreery is currently No. 23 on Mediabase/Country Aircheck and No. 29 on Music Row’s CountryBreakout Radio Chart with his single “You Time.” He’s finishing up work on a new album to come out later this year. He’ll start the “You Time Tour” in July and will also be direct support for select dates on the Old Dominion “Live from the Ball Park Tour.”
The Hurricane went on to beat the Predators in Game 5, now with a chance to take the series if the team can win on Thursday, May 27 at Bridgestone Arena.
Scotty McCreery Announces 2021 Tour as “You Time” Breaks Top 25
Delivering more than 130 online performances for fans, Country radio, charitable events, and media outlets, Scotty McCreery had one thought in the back of his mind this last year: readying new music for fans when he could again return to the road. Between his livestream concert on Sept. 4, 2020, “Live from the Ryman,” with his full band being the first to welcome any audience back into the Ryman (limited capacity) and their Dec. 2, 2020 stripped-acoustic livestream from Raleigh’s Lincoln Theatre, McCreery has been thinking a lot about what his show will look and feel like when in-person again and especially what he wants to say. That time is upon him with the launch of his You Time Tour in June.
“This last year I was glad to get more ‘you time’ with my wife Gabi than ever before, as well as a lot of ‘you time’ with some of my favorite songwriters via zoom as we created new songs for the upcoming album,” reflects McCreery who has been in the studio this year with producers Aaron Eshuis, Frank Rogers and Derek Wells. “And now that we’re able to tour again, I cannot wait to get back on the road and have some ‘you time’ with fans this summer. This song’s message and timing really hit home for me and I hope we keep a few things like the intention of the time we spent with others this last year as we look ahead. I, for one, will never take going to a show or playing music live for fans for granted after this last year without it.”
The North Carolina native released “You Time” last September as the first single from his upcoming new album which he plans to put out in the Fall. Written by McCreery, Rogers and Eshuis, the song is rising steadily, currently sitting at No. 23 on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck Country Singles Chart.
Announced earlier today, McCreery will also join Old Dominion as direct support on select Live from the Ballpark Tour dates (denoted below).
“I’m excited to reunite with Old Dominion for their Live from the Ballpark Tour,” said McCreery, who last toured with the band in 2019. “These guys are not only amazing performers but great people, and this tour will be a blast. Plus, having been a pitcher on my high school baseball team, performing in these ball parks will be like coming home.”

Update Regarding UK Tour Dates
With the strong recommendations of our concert promoters and with an abundance of caution, I am sorry to announce that my UK and Ireland concerts scheduled for May 2021 will be postponed again to future, not yet determined, dates that will most likely be next year.
The band and I held out hope that we would be able to come over this year but the health and safety of my concert goers, the staff at the venues, and my band and crew have to come first. Please hold on to your tickets. We miss y’all and we will be back. Until then, stay safe.
MULTI-PLATINUM RECORDING ARTIST SCOTTY McCREERY SIGNS WITH UNIVERSAL MUSIC PUBLISHING NASHVILLE
Triple Tigers recording artist Scotty McCreery has signed an exclusive, worldwide publishing agreement with Universal Music Publishing Nashville.
2021 marks ten years since McCreery won the hearts of America and the title of American Idol and his artistry has only continued to grow. The multi-platinum selling singer/songwriter co-wrote all 11 songs on his most recent album the RIAA Gold-certified Seasons Change, including his three consecutive No. 1 hits: “Five More Minutes,” “See You Tonight,” and “In Between.”
In addition, he is a three-time BMI Award winner for writing One of the Top 50 Country Songs of the Year in 2015 for “See You Tonight,” in 2018 for “Five More Minutes,” and in 2019 for “This is It,” as well as winner of the NSAI Nashville Songwriter Award for One of the Top Ten Songs I Wish I’d Written for “Five More Minutes” in 2018. McCreery is also a co-writer of his current Top 40 and rising single “You Time.”
“Writing songs is one of my favorite things to do,” said McCreery. “I’ve written nearly all my life, and since coming to Nashville ten years ago, I’ve had the opportunity to co-write with many talented songwriters in town who have both taught and encouraged me. Signing with Universal Music Publishing and working with Troy Tomlinson, Terry Wakefield, and all the great folks on their team is another big step in my songwriting journey. I am proud to call Universal Music Publishing my home.”
“We all watched as Scotty came onto the scene as a high school athlete who simply loved to sing and entertain,” said Terry Wakefield, Senior Vice President of A&R, UMPG Nashville. “He has now grown into one of country music’s most consistent hit makers. We are thrilled to represent him and his songs.”
McCreery has been hard at work writing and recording the highly anticipated follow-up to his acclaimed Seasons Change, with “You Time” as the lead single. Written by McCreery, Frank Rogers and Aaron Eshuis, and produced by Rogers, Eshuis and Derek Wells, the track has garnered nearly 11 million streams since its release and is steadily climbing up the Country charts. McCreery recently premiered the official music video “You Time” on “CMT Hot 20 Countdown.” Watch the video HERE.
Billboard notes, “the first single from his forthcoming album bodes well for his streak of three back-to-back No. 1’s to continue,” while MusicRow proclaims of McCreery, “as always, he’s a country beacon,” and of the track “upbeat and romantic, this has a lot going for it.” “You Time” follows McCreery’s three back-to-back No. 1’s from Seasons Change: the RIAA Double-Platinum Certified “Five More Minutes,” RIAA Platinum-Certified “This Is It” and RIAA Gold-Certified “In Between.”
McCreery is represented by Triple 8 Management’s George Couri and Scott Stem for management and WME’s Nate Towne for booking.
